DNA CAMPAIGN: Farm labourer's daughter from Amravati scores 91.20%

The daughter of farm labourers in Amravati district, Pratiksha Dinesh Thakre of Shahid Smirti Vidyalaya in Benoda village topped her school's SSC results this year with 91.20 per cent.

"She would wake up early in the morning to study," says her mother Jyoti, "and has always been a bright child. She doesn't like sports. Her entire focus is on studies. Even though we earn only100 rupees per day, we never stopped her from studying. She would also come to the farms to help us out. She always wants to see us happy. She has made not only us but the entire village proud. Now she wants to pursue science and become a doctor. We would appreciate any help."

Talking about her struggles Pratiksha said, "My teachers always supported me and my elder brother Tushar helped me study. I never joined any classes, and would help my mother in the household work. My parents have done a lot for me. I want to see them happy and proud of me."

Ramesh Pharkade, president of the school's institutional committee, said, "Our school is very proud of her. The teachers guided her throughout the year. She knew how to make the best of a difficult situation. If she receives help, she can achieve her dream of becoming a doctor."
