Mohammed Jabir Shaikh met with a railway accident when he was in Class 5, and lost his right leg while his left leg was disabled
With the sole aim of getting closer to his dream, Mumbra-based teenager Mohammed Jabir Shaikh passed the SSC exams with a score of 90 per cent this year. A student of Thane Municipal Urdu School no.13 in Mumbra, Mohammed aims to secure admission in an IIT institute.
Mohammed met with a railway accident when he was in Class 5, and lost his right leg while his left leg was disabled. He has grown up as a physically challenged student. Mohammed's parent, who stay in Bihar, are farmers. Due to their poor financial condition, Shaikh extends help to his older brother and sister in their daily work. They also send money to their parents in Bihar when needed.
"Without attending private classes, I studied on my own and scored 90 per cent. Everyday I would walk three kilometers to school. While I dream of studying in IIT, the fees are expensive and I don't have the money. I have decided to become a civil engineer. Due to lack of money, we need financial support to for me to achieve my dream," said Mohammed Jabir Shaikh.
In 2016, due to financial problems Mohammed's sister was unable to appear for her SSC exams. This year, Mohammed taught her and helped her pass Class 10, where she scored 51 per cent.
Mohammed said his family and school were happy with his success. Sadam Shaikh, his brother said, "Till now no one has come forward to help. We don't know where to seek financial aid. When we inquired after a few classes in science, we were told it would cost Rs 1 lakh for two years."
