With the festive season approaching fast, dna decided to speak to some political leaders regarding the issue of noise pollution during the celebrations. A Thane-based politician, however, claimed that no one has ever complained about the celebration that he organises till date.

MLA Pratap Sarnaik said, "I have been celebrating this festival with great pomp and show for the last 23 years. Till date, no one has complained about the noise. I do not have a single police case registered against me for violating norms. This is a Hindu festival, which we shall celebrate."

He further said several people have approached him, urging him to get a disco jockey (DJ) for the Dahi Handi festival. "Now that people have asked for a DJ, I cannot disappoint them. I can, however, ensure that the volume does not cause trouble to others."

He also said that noise is created even when two people fight. So, why is that not a violation of norms?

Meanwhile, when dna contacted NCP legislator Jitendra Awhad, he said he is not going to organise Dahi Handi this year, and so he does not feel the need to comment on the matter.
