This Diwali, many people were seen openly flouting Supreme Court's order on bursting firecrackers as not much attention was paid to the guidelines issued by the apex court and crackers were being burst beyond the time limits and also at high noise levels. Two days after the festival, the Mumbai police is now compiling data so as to ascertain how many cases have been registered and what type of violations have been made this time. Many people have complained to the cops about crackers being exploded till late night causing nuisance and heavy inconvenience to them. The police, before the commencement of the festive season, had assured that they will keep a strong tab so that the orders of the court is not violated but given the situation after the passing of Diwali, the cops say that gathering all the necessary data will take some time and further details shall be highlighted ahead once a concrete figure related to the matter is available to them.

So far the Trombay police station and the Marine Drive police station have booked two and seven people respectively who were allegedly found bursting crackers beyond permissible time limits. The Trombay police on Wednesday had registered a complaint and on Thursday, Marine Drive police station had detained the defaulters. In both the matters, all the detained persons were charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and were fined for the provisions for which they were held before being let off.

"We have asked all the 94 police stations across the city to take strong cognizance of the matter coming to them and follow the orders of the SC on bursting firecrackers. All the officials have been asked to take actions against those violating it and for the same, the cases registered are being investigated. Gathering all the data for total amount of cases registered against defaulters, cases against illegal manufacturers and sellers of firecrackers and levels of noise breached by loud explosives at different areas of the city will take time for compilation and once the data is out, further necessary action shall be initiated accordingly. We expect approximate figures to be out by Monday." said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Manjunath Shinge.
