Disturbed by porn clips, minor sets herself ablaze in Bhandup

A minor girl, who is battling for survival after suffering serious burns, had apparently tried to commit suicide as she was disturbed by porn video clips that she was exposed to repeatedly by a neighbour.

The incident happened on Tuesday in Bhandup and the police were initially told that there was a cooking gas explosion. "When we visited the house in Patil chawl at Pratap Nagar, we could smell kerosene," said Pratap Chavan, senior police inspector.

But the day after, the girl's mother found a note apparently written by the girl saying the neighbour, Sameer Gugre, 33, had been showing her porn video clips on his mobile phone and he had even tried to molest her.

The police then registered a case of attempt to commit suicide. They charged the man with abetment of suicide under sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested him.

The girl, who is being treated at Sion hospital, has also named another minor who was show the porn clips, the police said.

Gugre is married and has a son. His wife and child have been away in the past month.
