Over a week after his open air gymnasiums were removed from Marine Drive, actor Dino Morea has installed the fitness apparatus at a Sewree's Dattaji Nalawade garden. While the high court appointed panel had rejected permission to the gymnasiums at Marine Drive, Morea is set to install more gyms across the city.

The two fitness stations installed by Morea's DM Fitness Pvt Ltd had received notices from the BMC, asking him to remove them by January 31. Following the notice, Morea removed the gyms from the sea facing promenade.

"One of the gyms has been moved to a Sewree garden and the other one is kept in store. The gyms are a hit with people. So, where ever people want it we are trying to install them. I am also trying to reach out to sponsors and corporates to support the fitness initiative. The open air gyms are a low cost-high utility initiative. We will follow all rules and only then install the gyms," Morea told dna.

While Morea removed the gyms, Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray — who had inaugurated the gyms — was irked by the BMC's decision.

Aditya had said that objections to the gym were politically motivated, besides hitting out at the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC), pointing out that the MHCC had no conservation architect or historian for the first time since it was formed.

Morea had written to the BMC seeking an extension but didn't receive any reply. dna had first reported on November 17 that the Bombay High Court (HC) appointed panel had rejected permission to Morea's open air gymnasium on Marine Drive.

"We want to install as many gyms as possible. People can get in touch with us for installing the gyms. The feedback that we got is great. We want to extend the fitness network to the far eastern and western suburbs too," Morea said.

Inaugurated in July, by Aaditya, Morea and actress Jacqueline Fernandes, the open air, open to all gymnasium is an ensemble of multiple fitness equipment. Following a controversy over its installation, the BMC had given a three month permission to set up the facility on an 'experimental' basis.

"Open gyms are a great idea. The best part is that they are free so any body cause use them. If used properly, they can help people is working out. More such gyms should be promoted. It is a welcome move and an innovative way to get fit. It is the best way to utilize open space," said Ryan Pereira of the Bombay Fitness Project.

Just a day after its inauguration, the BMC had dismantled one of the two gymnasiums citing lack of permissions. Under pressure from the Shiv Sena, hours later; the BMC was forced to re-install it after the Sena pointed out that it had got necessary permissions. It is touted as Aditya's pet project too.
