Devendra Fadnavis meets home minister with plan to tackle Naxal menace in Vidarbha

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday met union Home minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi with a proposal for skill development and a better communication network with increased security arrangements in Naxal-infested areas of Vidarbha region. Singh assured Maharashtra of positively considering the same.

The Naxal menace is being confronted by a number of states, including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. There have also been conferences at the national level on the issue.

Fadnavis's proposal for imparting skill development training in Vidarbha's Naxal-infested areas could lead to employment generation in the region. He has also proposed a better communication network so that it could lead to economic development there. Besides this, the CM has suggested ways and means to improve the security infrastructure in the region.

Fadnavis was accompanied by minister of state for tribal development Ambarishraje Atram, Lok Sabha MPs Hansaraj Ahir, Nana Patole and Ashok Nete, along with senior police officers from all three Naxal-infested districts of Bhandara, Gondiya and Gadchiroli.

Fadnavis also called on union minister for road transport, highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari and reviewed the progress of the Panvel-Indapur Highway, which is part of the Mumbai-Goa National Highway (NH56). Gadkari is also believed to have discussed with Fadnavis the projects for Vidarbha region, as both leaders hail from Nagpur.
