Despite the state government announcing the suspension of Jivak Ghegadmal, assistant municipal commissioner (AMC) from C-Ward, he continues to be in office. This has angered the opposition as well as some members of the ruling party.

Minister of state for urban development, while replying to the members on the floor of the house on march 27, had announced that Ghegadwal including the field officers will be suspended for an illegal construction of a nine-storeyed building at Pydhonie.

The issue was raised by MLA Sharad Sonawane and echoed by members of all parties. The Bombay HC and the MHADA's Mumbai office had also asked the BMC to act against it. "He is still working and destroying all evidence against him," alleged BJP MLA Raj Purohit.

"Once they have announced the suspension, it should have happened with immediate effect. If they are saying that it has not happened due to a pending enquiry, then it is not justified," said Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil.

Jayant Patil of NCP said, "Enquiries can go on for years. Does that mean that an officer continues to be in the position? We will go in for a breach of privilege proceeding."

"They can enquire against me and take action," said Ghegadmal.
