Thane MP Sanjeev Naik has expressed satisfaction about being able to do something concrete for railway commuters in the last five years of his tenure as a member of parliament, even though railway ministers kept changing at regular intervals.

"In the last five years, railway ministers kept changing. Despite this I met every minister personally and apprised him of the problems faced by commuters in my constituency. I also thank active commuters and railway organisations who brought various issues to our notice," said Naik during a workshop, organised to discuss railway issues and solutions in Thane by social welfare organisation 'Nirdhaar'.

Naik pointed out the works he has done to ease commuters' woes. "Thane-Vashi ladies special, the proposal for Kalyan-Vashi route, development of Rs1,700 crore Seawoods railway station on public private participation (PPP) model, transfer of stations from Cidco to railways, developing new railway stations at Khairane and Bonkode and metro for Navi Mumbai are some of the things which were followed up and met with success," said MP Naik.

Considering the problems faced by Thane commuters, Naik said, "To decongest Thane railway station, construction of 12m wide footover bridge, escalators, Satis project, a new ticket reservation window at west side were some of the projects undertaken for Thane city."

The MP said, "The metro project from Pendhar to Belapur will change the way of mass transport system in the satellite city. The state government has also given a nod to metro services from mental hospital in Thane to Ghodbunder Road and then to Mira-Bhayander. A proposal in this regard has been prepared."

Development and infra projects worth Rs400 crore could be executed in Thane constituency by a continuous follow-up with MMRDA, MSRDC and Cidco. "While spending MP funds, my approach has been to utilise this money on long term projects," said Naik. The funds have been used for indoor stadium at Dhokali, mini sports complex at Mira-Bhayander and Wonders Park in Nerul.

On what his plans will be if he is elected for the next term, Naik said, "Using environment for development of the district, connecting various areas in the constituency through waterways, making railways more efficient, implementing projects to conserve lakes in Thane, develop cable routes from Borivli to Yeoor, among others, will be the priorities."
