Fifteen-year-old Swati Patil, who belongs to a poor family of landless labourers in Kathora village located in Jalgaon district, has inspired several students by securing 91.6 per cent in the Class X board exams. Patil, a student of Chhatrapati Shivaji High School, has beaten all the hardships that the family has been undergoing by making her dream come true.

Swati, who stays in a mud house made with thatched roofs, saw her mother working all day as a labourer on other people's farms as they do not own any land. Her father, Bhikan Patil is physically disabled and cannot toil hard due to his physical limitations.

To support her family, Swati had to help her mother on the fields while juggling her work and studies at the same time. "I have given several competitive exams while in school and have always been doing well in studies. My school has been very supportive in my efforts and my family tries to be with me despite their financial limitations" said Swati. She aspires to become an IPS officer.

Swati's mother Sarla said that Swati is a hardworking student and has taken a lot of pain to get such a good score. "We belong to a very poor family and have to struggle a lot to make ends meet. After I would leave for work, Swati would work in the house. She would also lend us a helping hand on the field on weekends and holidays. She dreams of studying further but we are not in the financial condition to support her higher education" added Sarla.

Her father Bhikan, who was born with a disability and met with two accidents said that the family has high hopes from Swati. "Both Swati and my son have been good students in school. We really want Swati to study further but have no money. We cannot borrow any more money from others and are really hoping to get some help from good samaritans" he added.
