Deputy Municipal Commissioner Chandrashekhar Rokade suspension likely today

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Chandrashekhar Rokade, who was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths taking a bribe of Rs1 lakh from a civic contractor to clear his bills, is likely to be suspended on Tuesday.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Chandrashekhar Rokade, who was caught red-handed  by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths taking a bribe of Rs1 lakh from a civic contractor to clear his bills, is likely to be suspended on Tuesday.

Though the sessions court granted him bail on Monday afternoon, he was behind the bars for more than 48 hour.

The ACB has sent the court’s order with covering letter to the civic chief office on Monday evening. According to the sources from the commissioner’s office, the civic chief was not in office on Monday.

The file will be forwarded to the General Administration department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Tuesday morning. Followed by the procedure, the commissioner is likely to suspend him on Tuesday.

According to ACB sources, Rokade hid the bribe money   in the toilet attached to his cabin after after he saw some people outside his office through the CCTV installed outside his cabin. 

“After searching his cabin and toilet, we found the bribe money of Rs1 lakh covered with anthracene powder which was given to the complainant to give it to Rokade. We found powder in his cloths, so we seized it as an evidence” said an ACB official.

“We have enough evidence against Rokade. He had also taken Rs2 lakh earlier from the contractor,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Niket Kaushik, adding that “the court has asked Rokade to visit ACB office till September 20”.
