A 58-year-old man said to be depressed due to his ailment committed suicide at his Masjid Bunder residence on Wednesday night. The deceased, in his suicide note, had said he could not bear the side-effects of the medicines he had to take for his illness and that he has "lost all hope to live", the police said. The note was addressed to his mother and wife.

Identified as Narendra Dulinchand Lodaya, a resident of Anant Bhavan building in Bhaat Baazar on Narshi Natha Street, he stayed with his mother, wife and daughter. He ran a shop on the ground floor of the same building, selling religious items.

Senior inspector Sunil Kavlekar of Pydhonie police station said Lodaya used to wake up around 11.30am and go down to his shop. When on Thursday he did not wake up even after 12pm, his wife went into his room and found him hanging.

"Lodaya's wife then screamed for help; neighbours informed his brother about the incident. Lodaya's brother stays in the opposite building. He then rushed to the spot and the police was informed. After conducting panchnama, Lodaya's body was handed to his family," Kavlekar said.

The police have registered an accidental death case into the matter.
