The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has defogged the Bal Thackeray memorial in Dadar's Shivaji Park, just days before his second death anniversary on Monday. The defogging work is part of the BMC's drive against dengue, the cases of which have been on the rise in the city. Shiv Sena party workers also joined in the fogging work.

Shiv Sainiks are expected to throng the memorial on Monday to honour their late leader.

Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray had last week instructed party workers to ensure they take dengue concerns seriously and spread public awareness about the mosquito-borne disease.

"Scores of people are expected to show up on Monday. So, to keep mosquitoes away, we have carried out fogging here over the past few days with the help of BMC," a local party functionary said, wishing not to be named.

The memorial garden has many kinds of flowers, besides a freshwater fountain. The dengue-carrying aedes aegypti mosquito breeds in fresh water.

Sena's zonal head from the area, legislator Sada Sarvankar said, "We had fogging done as one of the preparations for the ceremony. We are also going to organize cleanliness drives and a blood donation camp in connection with saheb's death anniversary," Sarvankar said.

BMC says that dengue has claimed ten lives this year for certain, while two other deaths are suspected. Over 700 cases of dengue have been reported between January and October this year.

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena said that VIP guests will be given entry to Monday's ceremony from Cadell Road (which passes by the mayor's bungalow), while the general public can enter the memorial from the Samarth Vyayam

Mandir end of the ground. "There will be seating arrangements made for VIPs close to the memorial. We have arranged for tea and breakfast too for VIPs. The BMC will make available water at five different locations and station mobile toilets for the public," Sarvankar said.
