The Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) KMM Prasanna on Thursday served two lawyers with a defamation notice for alleging that he was involved in the drug syndicate operated by police constable Dharmraj Kalokhe with drug peddler Baby Patankar. The lawyers had filed an application on behalf of Kalokhe, challenging a second FIR in the case that was registered at Marine Drive police station.

Kalokhe was most recently arrested for allegedly possessing 12 kg of mephedrone or M-Cat, which was recovered from an official cupboard in the Marine Drive police station where he was stationed. He had earlier been in jail over the seizure of 110 kg of M-Cat in Satara.

On March 25, when Kalokhe was produced before the magistrate's court, his advocates Naveen Chomal and Jayesh Wani submitted an application before the court, claiming that Satara police had thoroughly questioned Kalokhe about the involvement of a Customs officials as well as about the role of a senior IPS officer in Mumbai, that is, Prasanna.

Prasanna's defamation notice also stated that Chomal had appeared on a news channel and made the claim that the Satara police was investigating Prasanna's involvement in the case.

Prasanna's notice said that the claim made by Kalokhe was false, and was made on the behest of some anti-social elements who wanted to settle scores with Prasanna. The notice also stated that Prasanna had made inquiries with Satara police, who told him that they had never questioned Kalokhe about Prasanna's involvement in the case.

The ACP has demanded an unconditional apology from both the lawyers for defaming him. He has also demanded that the lawyers assure him that after receiving the notice, they would not make or publish any defamatory comments against him.

Chomal told dna, "We have received the notice and we will reply to it. We have nothing personal against Prasanna, we just said what our client told us." Chomal added, "If Prasanna pressurises us or tries to implicate us, we will inform the bar council about the matter." The other lawyer, Jayesh Wani, said he had no comment about the matter.
