With a chase starting from Nitin company to Mumbra, the motor vehicle assistant inspector Gajanan Gurav managed to nab a chain snatcher and recover a stolen two-wheeler along with five tola gold mangalsutra worth Rs1.5 lakh. Though one chain snatcher was caught immediately at Mumbra, his companion fled the spot.
The police from Vartak Nagar are investigating the case and are on the lookout of the accomplice. They are also checking if the two were related with any kind of gang for this act.
Gurav said, "I was at job, standing with my colleagues near a petrol pump when my eye caught two pillion riders, where one was sitting on the tank of the two-wheeler and other who behind. I caught them and warned them to ride slowly and without so many people. Later, another two-wheeler rider came and told me that the two whom I was talking to had snatched a woman's chain. We immediately started chasing them. They were near Kalwa and on the highway toward Mumbra. It was getting difficult for us as they were continuously crossing lanes between. It was when they reached Mumbra that we caught one of them.
The other ran in the opposite direction and could not be caught. On being interrogated, he told that he did not know how to ride a bike which was why he sat on the petrol tank to snatch the chain."
Gurav added, "The accused is a drug addict. We also returned the mangalsutra to the victim."
