DC: Police inspector held for demanding Rs 25,000 bribe

According to ACB officials, the complainant is the owner of Lalit Vihar lunch home in Malad. The Malad police on Wednesday raided the hotel and arrested some of the employees.

The Anti Corruption Bureau's (ACB) Mumbai unit on Thursday arrested a police inspector posted with Malad police station and another person for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a hotelier. The accused had allegedly demanded the bribe to grant bail to employees of the complainant, who were arrested in a raid by the Malad police station.

According to ACB officials, the complainant is the owner of Lalit Vihar lunch home in Malad. The Malad police on Wednesday raided the hotel and arrested some of the employees. On Thursday, in an order to grant bail to the arrested employees, police inspector Raghunath Dalvi (57) posted at Malad police station demanded Rs 25,000 through Manohar Janardhan Bhandari (46). The complainant in the case approached the ACB and registered a complaint against Dalvi and Bhandari.

"After receiving the complaint we verified the information after which a trap was laid near Malad police station. When Dalvi and Bhandari came to accept the money from the complainant they were arrested," said an officer from ACB.
