Day after Shiv Sena worker's murder, police arrest five

A day after a 27-year-old Shiv Sena worker was stabbed to death by a mob inside his house in Malad (East), the Dindoshi police have arrested five people on the charge of murder. The accused have been identified as Sohail Ansari, Imran Kazi, Yusuf Aziz, Gullu Aziz and a 17-year-old boy.

On Tuesday night, the deceased, Ramesh Jadhav, was trying to stop a fight between two groups when he was attacked, said the police.

A police officer said, "Jadhav and his daughter were standing nearby when the two groups got into a heated argument. When his daughter started crying, one of the accused slapped her. Jadhav then got into an argument with them and, later, left for home. The accused followed him to his house and attacked him with a sharp object and fled."

Although he was immediately rushed to hospital, Jadhav could not be saved. A local Sena leader, he also worked as an imitation jeweller. Following the incident, a huge number of political workers had gathered in the area and outside the Dindoshi police station demanding action.

Among the accused, the minor is a school dropout, while two others recently graduated. Another accused is a car broker and one owns a stall, said the police. All five were produced before a court and have been remanded in police custody The protests continued in the area after the arrests but the police said the situation is under control.
