The J J Marg police on Tuesday arrested fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim's younger brother Iqbal Kaskar in connection with an alleged extortion case. Kaskar was summoned to the police station after a real estate agent registered a case of extortion against Kaskar and two of his aides.

Kaskar demandedRs 3L as protection money: Complainant
According to the JJ Marg police, the complainant, Salim Shaikh, is a distant relative of Kaskar and runs a real estate business in the city. On January 30, Shaikh was allegedly summoned by Kaskar at his office on Pakmodia Street in South Mumbai. Shaikh told the police that Kaskar had demanded Rs 3 lakh as 'protection money' and when Shaikh refused to oblige, he was beaten up by Kaskar and his aides. Shaikh approached Byculla police station that night itself. The police registered a 'Zero FIR' (FIR registered till the case is transferred to the relevant police station) and transferred the case to J J Marg police station.

One accused still on the run
On Tuesday afternoon Kaskar was summoned by the J J Marg police station for questioning and after four hours of questioning, was placed under arrest. Additional commissioner of police (South) Krishna Prakash said, "We have arrested Kaskar for extortion and assault along with one of his associates, Shabbir Shaikh. Both of them will be produced before the local court. We have launched a manhunt for the third accused."
The J J Marg police booked Kaskar and Shabbir under section 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Brother may have taken over extortion business, say cops
A senior police officer said that after the death of Dawood's sister Haseena Parker in July 2014, Kaskar was believed to have taken over the extortion business. "We have reasons to believe that Kaskar is running the extortion business using the name of Dawood after Haseena's death. His interrogation will throw more light on the nature of the business," said an officer.
Kaskar was deported in 2003 from the United Arab Emirates. However in 2007, he was acquitted in all the cases registered against him.
