After a performance by international DJ and music producer David Guetta scheduled for Thursday night in Bengaluru was cancelled, the one scheduled in Mumbai on Friday has also run into trouble.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has denied permission for the 'Sunburn Arena' event that was to be organised at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse.

While the organisers say that they have shifted the venue to Jio Garden in BKC Bandra East, MMRDA has not granted permission till later Thursday night.

Harindra Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of Percept Ltd, told DNA that the decision to shift the venue to Jio Garden was taken two days ago. But the civic body issued a statement on Thursday 'cautioning' citizens.

The BMC administration appealed to citizens that they should not buy tickets for event since it is being organised illegally. Senior civic officials said that Percept had advertised the venue for the Sunburn event as Mahalaxmi Racecourse without seeking permission from the BMC.

"In fact, they even started selling tickets. This did not go down well with the civic administration as there was a bitter experience of a recently held event in the city by the same organisers," said an official.

Percept had staged an event around two months ago and allegedly failed to pay up the dues to the civic body. When the civic body started demanding the dues, there was no response.

"It was then decided by senior authorities that henceforth, no permission will be given to the firm and an FIR should be registered against the company. However, when the civic administration realised that this time the company had even gone ahead with advertisements and opened up booking for the event at Mahalaxmi Racecourse, the caution note was issued," said a senior BMC official.

After the civic body issued the caution note, Percept representatives rushed to the civic body with the demand draft of the pending dues.

BMC chief Ajoy Mehta confirmed that such a note was issued. Mehta insisted, "Permission and approvals for such a big event should have been sought much earlier. Rules and regulations will have to be followed."

Singh told DNA that there was a dispute with the civic authorities in the past, but it had now been resolved. "There was nothing illegal about the event. It is true that permissions are yet to be sought. But this is like a chicken-and-egg situation. While we have to apply for permission beforehand, we also have to keep all parameters like health, fire, traffic etc. under check before the BMC conducts an inspection. These permissions are topical in nature and the authorities do have the right to deny permission. We have no complaints. The new venue is Jio Garden in BKC and the MMRDA will soon issue us the permission," said Singh.
