Extension of time for registration and applications for the MHADA's Konkan board lottery by a week has worked wonders for the housing authority. Till August 6, just two days before the initial closing date for registration, there were around 60,000 users on the website, and close to 41,000 registrations and 35,000 applications. The registration will now close on August 16. The number of users has crossed 91,000, the number of registration has crossed 59,000 and over 58,000 applications have been received. MHADA authorities claim that they extended the date on public demand.

A senior official stated that since most people get their salary between 6-10 of every month, many got the opportunity to apply in more than one schemes due to the extension of the date.

Vijay Lahane, chief officer of Konkan Board of MHADA, said, "We extended the dates on public demand. Our call centres were flooded with calls asking for the extension of dates. We have 9,000 plus homes and 35,000 applications for 9,000 homes is more than satisfactory."

The lottery for over 9,000 homes will now be carried out on August 25, instead of August 19. The lottery is being organised by Konkan Board of MHADA and also has homes under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme. The lottery includes Thane, Virar, Kalyan, Ambernath, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri areas. It is the biggest housing lottery by the housing authority of the state.
