The Bombay high court has kept the review petition filed by Maharashtra government in the dahi handi matter for hearing on August 21.
A division bench of justices VM Kanade and PD Kode had said on August 11 that children below the age of 18 years cannot participate in the human pyramids which are formed to break the dahi handi. The HC had also restricted the height of the human pyramid to 20 feet, which is four levels.
Public prosecutor Sandeep Shinde informed the HC that the Supreme Court has suspended the HC order for this year based on petitions by some organisers of dahi handi.
Hence the judges kept the review petition for hearing next week.
The government has said that the dahi handi mandals have been preparing for the event for some time now. Hence, implementing the order a few days before the festival was not possible.
