Dadar man arrested for kidnapping, raping minor girl

The Dadar police arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl.

The accused after his arrest, has also confessed to burglary at a jewellery shop in Worli where he, along with his accomplices, made away with gold and silver jewelleries worth Rs32 lakh.

The accused Suresh Takar and the 13-year-old victim lived in the same colony — Janta Colony in Dadar (W). According to the police, the victim had run away with Takar around five times in the past but always returned home. The family never approached the police as they feared their name would be  tarnished in the community. 

On October 25, the minor left her house around 8pm saying that she was going to the common toilet in the vicinity. However, when she did not return, the family suspected that she ran away with Takar and informed the police this time. It was only on November 13, that the family lodged a kidnapping case. 

During investigation, the police learnt that Takar and his friends were involved in a robbery that was carried out at Panchratna Jewellers,Worli  where he stole jewelleries worth Rs32 lakh.

“The police received a tip-off that Takar was hiding in a lodge in Dhakawdi, Pune. We raided the place and found the girl there,” said Dhananjay Kulkarni, deputy commissioner of police.

The victim told the police that Takar had promised to marry her. A medical examination of the girl was conducted that confirmed she had been raped. Takar has been booked for kidnapping, rape and under relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The police, have recovered over Rs25 lakh from Takar and his friend, Vaibhav Palvankar.
