The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) had issued notices to the residents on June 4 to vacate their buildings to enable the Metro-3 work to start.
Stating that residents of Dadar are not opposed to the Metro project, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said that the locals from Dadar (West) have shown readiness for rehabilitation at an alternative place. He added that he will get the survey done for exploring whether rehabilitation is possible on the same place or a new one.

A delegation of project affected persons in the 33.5km Metro-3 corridor connecting the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz line had met the chief minister on Tuesday. Fadnavis made it clear that the government would not consider cancelling the Metro-3 project at any cost. The delegation was led by minister for industries Subhash Desai and MLA Sada Sarwankar.
While replying to a question on this issue during his press conference after the cabinet meeting, the chief minister said that the residents met him with Desai and MLA Sarwankar. He informed that the residents are not opposed to project and they have shown readiness for the rehabilitation at a suitable place. Fadnavis informed that the delegation also suggested an alternative spot for rehabilitation of these residents.
Fadnavis informed that he has assured the delegation that he would explore the possibility for rehabilitating them at the same place. He said that he would also get a survey done for the alternative spot suggested by the residents.
Metro is for migrants: Raj
Voicing his opposition to the displacement of people, MNS chief Raj Thackeray charged that the Metro was being constructed for people who migrated to the city, but Maharashtrians would have to bear the brunt. He supported the Dadar residents who stand to be displaced because of the project. Raj alleged that these projects were being implemented in areas like Girgaum and Dadar where the number of Maharashtrians was large. He added that this was a ploy to sever Mumbai from Maharashtra. He called on the Shiv Sena, which shared power in the state government, to scrap the project instead of agitating against it.
