In a bid to help under-privileged children and the aged,  The Bandra Cycle Club, has taken a step beyond cycling and launched a noteworthy initiative. As part of this iniatiative, over 50 members of the club have jointly put together a 2013 calendar which will be up for grabs across the city and the funds of which will go to a charitable trust called Swagat Ashram in Malad.

The club also plans to do a joint ride with Harley Owners’ India next month to promote this cause. Vishal Sharma, co-founder of the club said, “This is for the first time that a cycling fraternity has come up with a calendar of sorts for social cause.” The calendar, which was conceived by Vishal over the last month consists of pictures of rides and stunts performed by cyclists and members of the club.

“We revealed the calendar a week ago. As a club, we wanted to evolve and go beyond just a sport. This is the only way we could contribute to the society at a micro level. We dedicate this creative idea to the entire cycling fraternity,” added Vishal.

The club has approached several cycling brands, manufacturers, etc, to contribute for this good cause and the total funds collected has already crossed Rs70,000. “I was personally associated with this charitable trust, but I wanted to involve the club to make a difference. The icing on the cake is cyclists riding with Harley riders next month and handing over the total funds to the trust.”

He also adds that the club will continue to connect cycling and charity by coming up with several other innovative activities and initiatives in the future. “We have promoted cycling as a healthy lifestyle choice, but now our objective is to help empower the society.
