The cyber cell of Mumbai Police prevented a 'heartbroken' youth from ending his life, following a break-up with his girlfriend.

The youth sent out a three-lined mail to the Mumbai Police commissioner Rakesh Maria, stating that 'he is heartbroken and is tired of his life and would commit suicide'. The police commissioner immediately forwarded the mail to the cyber cell and instructed Mukund Pawar (senior police inspector) to take immediate action and save the youth's life.

"It was difficult since the only thing that we knew was the youth's name. We tried searching the name on Facebook but there were too many profiles with the same name," said Pawar, adding, "As the email was sent through Gmail, we got in touch with officials of Google in America and sought their help to trace the IP address of the computer."

The Google officials reverted with the information. "We later got in touch with the Internet service provider, who could help us with a telephone number which belonged to the owner under whose name the connection was procured," said Pawar. "When we called the number a lady picked up the phone, who turned out to be the youth's mother".

The residential address was traced to Bhandup. Officials from the cyber cell, which is located at CST, took a local train and rush there. "We were able to reach the spot before the youth could take the drastic step," the officials said, eho then counselled the youth.
