The second (cut off) merit list for online admission in city colleges is to be released on Wednesday evening. Authorities in many city colleges, however, said the cut-off marks would only be about 2% lesser than that of the first list.

The total number of students who took admission as on July 5 (the last day for paying fees) as per the first merit list was 1,06,537. Of this, the number of SSC students were 1,00,076; CBSE 2,334, ICSE 3706, IGCSE 160, NIOS 88 and others 173.

Sunil Mantri, principal of NM College, Vile Parle, said: "The required marks in the second cut off list may be just 1.5-2% lesser than the first list. In our college there aren't many vacant seats."

Echoing the sentiment, principal of Sathaye College in Vile Parle (east), Kavita Rege, said: "I don't think the second cut off marks would differ drastically from the first. In our college only 56 Commerce seats are left; in Arts of the 360, only 107 are left vacant, and in Science of the 720 seats only 118 remain vacant."

However, Mithibai College has around 200 seats vacant in Science and about 190 in Commerce. Sapna Durve, vice principal of the college, said: "In our college, the cut off marks for Science and Commerce will come down considerably. We have 222 seats vacant in Science stream; in Commerce, 14 seats of handicapped and sports quota are vacant apart from 170 open seats. Arts however has only around 73-77 vacant seats."

Declaration of merit list-II: July 9 at 5pm.
Payment of fees (merit list-II): July 10 and 11 between 10am and 3pm.
