While the Army completed a majority of the work on the foot-overbridge (FOB) at Currey Road, south Mumbai MP Arvind Sawant has now demanded that the FOB be connected to a neighbouring one using a skywalk, and has threatened to protest otherwise.

"We had demanded a bridge that would connect from end-to-end. But this one has no landing on the west although space is available on an open ground. If this bridge does not get a proper ending then we will protest," said MP Arvind Sawant.

On Sunday, Sawant visited Currey Road station to monitor the work. The Bombay Sappers of the Indian Army completed connecting it with Bailey Bridge made of high carbon steel. The FOB costs around Rs 5 crore and at present the only thing remaining is its stairs and escalators.

Initially, the Railways had to struggle to procure private land on the east side for which they had to make payments. In fact, Union Rrailway Minister Piyush Goyal on January 31 attributed the delay in starting the work at Currey Road to the delay in procuring this piece of land where the FOB will have a landing.

The bridge is 12-feet wide and has a capacity of 8 tonnes. On Sunday the army completed the basic work of launching the base of the bridge. The three bridges being built by Army at Currey Road, Elphinstone-Parel and Ambivali will be opened to the publoc together by February 19.
