The cyber police on Monday arrested a 26-year-old man, who has been serving in a central paramilitary force, for allegedly hacking actor Kareena Kapoor-Khan's income tax e-filing account. When the actress tried to file her income tax returns, she found that her account was hacked and someone had already filed an income tax return of Rs 8 lakh on her behalf.

The actor's chartered accountant approached the cyber police at Bandra-Kurla Complex and lodged a complaint in October 2016.

According to police, they found that the account had been hacked from an IP address in another state, following which a Mumbai police team was sent to Madhya Pradesh.

The accused, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, has allegedly confessed to the crime and has told police that he hacked the actor's income tax e-filing account so that he could get her mobile number to talk to her. When he could not get the actor's number, the accused allegedly decided to file the I-T return, the police said. He was well versed with the e-filing system as he had filed returns online for several people.

Confirming the arrest, Deputy Police Commissioner of Police, Sachin Patil said, "We have arrested and brought him to Mumbai on Monday afternoon."

S Gound, Assistant Police Inspector of BKC cyber police station, said, "The accused is a fan of Kareena and he wanted to get her mobile number. He ended up getting only her PAN card details. He then decided to file her I-T returns. He was produced in a court and was released on bail."
