Cuffe Parade residents have taken up the issue of promoting composting in the locality on a war footing and have installed three composting machines, which are used to produce manure. The residents are segregating dry and wet waste, which is later dumped in the composting machine.

The Cuffe Parade Residents Association (CPRA) has its representatives in 49 buildings, comprising 4,500 flats. White bags are given for dry waste, while black bags are provided to the residents for wet waste. The waste management team ensures that the residents segregate their waste to ensure proper implementation of the zero waste locality programme initiated by the CPRA.

"So far three machines have been installed in the locality in the first phase. More machines can be bought as per the requirements. The residents can also segregate their waste, which can be dumped in the compost pit in the Bayview Marina garden," said Padmakar Nandekar, Secretary General, CPRA.

"We are receiving an overwhelming response from the residents and our teams are conducting awareness programmes in the locality to ensure that the initiative is executed without any hindrance," said Nandekar.
