The proposed dog park in a Cuffe Parade garden will soon see the light of day as work on it is likely to begin in a month. The proposal has been prepared and awaits administrative approval.
Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner of A ward, confirmed that the administrative approval will be received in a fortnight.
“The work on the proposed garden may start in a fortnight or within a month,” added Dighavkar.
Makrand Narvekar, a BJP corporator from Colaba, had proposed to develop a dog park in a garden near the World Trade Centre.
Narvekar said, “The tender process of the proposed dog park will be completed soon.” He added that setting up a dog park was his election promise, and the proposed dog park will be exclusively for residents of south Mumbai.
The dog park will be the first of its kind to be maintained by the BMC, and will be equipped with several facilities. These facilities include a dog salon, veterinary doctor, water station, sand pit, play equipment and a
kiosk with seating area for pet owners.
“The park will be divided in three zones for small, medium and large dogs, for the convenience of pet owners,” informed an official from the ward.
The dog park will be spread across 900 sq metre area of the garden and its setting up will cost over Rs 25 lakh.
