After a pet Alsatian dog allegedly killed a Shetland Sheepdog and attacked the liftman of a posh housing society in Cuffe Parade, the residents held an urgent special general body meeting to evict the aggressive pet dog (of a resident) from the society.

The residents of Cuffe Parade's Jolly Maker III held a special general body meeting to discuss the issue after a resident's (Tarun Bali) pet Alsatian killed a Shetland Sheepdog, belonging to prominent lawyer Aspi Chinoy, and allegedly attacked the watchman of the building.

Sulakshana Chowgule, chairmman of Jolly Maker III, said: "The Alsatian dog had earlier, too, attacked the pets of other residents. So all the society members have unanimously decided to evict the aggressive pet from the society and have informed residents to ensure that they control their pets."

Moreover, Aspi Chinoy, the pet owner of the Shetland Sheepdog, Sassy, planted a tree sapling in the garden in memory of the pet. "I am happy that the aggressive Alsatian has been evicted from the society after the committee took an unanimous decision as the dog was a threat to all. I have planted a sapling in the garden and have vowed to grow it like my pet Sassy," said advocate Chinoy.

Chinoy had distributed pamphlets to the residents to explain the case and explain why the aggressive pet dog needed to be urgently evicted from the society. "We were not anti animal or pets in the society. Being a pet owner, I have to be responsible and ensure that the pet does not harm anyone."

Rashmi Jadhav, Senior Inspector, Cuffe Parade police station, said: "We have recorded the statements of the liftman and society residents. Adequate action will be taken against the pet owner for not controlling the animal owned by him."

Tarun Bali remained unavailable to comment over the incident.
