By Saturday, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) will short-list the software developers who will come up with the museum's mobile app.
Last week, CSMVS came out with a public notice seeking expression of interest from app developers for the task. The developers have been asked to submit their applications, appended with a list of clients they have earlier served, by June 30.
"Each exhibit the museum houses has a story and via the app we want to tell these stories in the simplest and shortest way possible. Currently they are often restricted to small labels," a museum official said.
"CSMVS was the first museum in the country to introduce an audio guide. One needs to adapt and change with the times. Smartphone use has increased at an astounding pace, and most people work with apps. We are now looking for an alliance between the antiquity we house and the digital platform the entire world is glued to. We aim to use technology as a resource and a source of supplementary edutainment," he said.
"They are to make the visitors' engagement more experiential and educational," the museum said to a query by this correspondent.
"With this in mind, we decided to bring out this Expression Of Interest wherein we have invited various companies. We are seeking expert advice as well. We aim to launch our mobile app by the end of next year," it said.
The museum houses a 60,000-strong multicultural collection of artefacts from Asia and Europe.
