The award for the Victorian-era railway station will be given at a ceremony on Friday, during Swachh Mahotsav at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
The world heritage site of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is the best 'Swachh iconic place' in the country, as adjudged by a group of ministries including Jal Shakti (Drinking Water and Sanitation), Tourism, Culture and Urban Affairs.
The award for the Victorian-era railway station will be given at a ceremony on Friday, during Swachh Mahotsav at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
The CSMT competed for the top spot with 30 other iconic places selected over three phases under the Swachh Bharat Mission. These included Vaishno Devi in Jammu and Kashmir, Taj Mahal in Uttar Pradesh, Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh, Golden Temple in Punjab, Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan, Meenakshi Temple in Tamil Nadu, Kamakhya Temple in Assam, Jagannath Puri in Odisha.
The award will be received by the Ministry of Railways jointly along with civic authority Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and suburban Central Railway authority, which operates the station.
The parameters considered to adjudge the best Swachh iconic place are accomplishment of action plan, participation/involvement of stakeholders in the execution of action plans, funds leveraged, funds utilised, cleanliness in peripheral area, visibility of Swachh Iconic Place, sustainability of initiatives, and evidences of visibility of differences.
AK Gupta, the general manager of Central Railway, congratulated the CR team for their efforts in keeping Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus up to notch.
