The Christian community woke up to a disturbing Monday morning. A cross on SV Road, near the LIC building in Vile Parle, was vandalised yet again. dna had reported about the cross being vandalised last December.

This is the second time within a year of it being vandalised, that it was desecrated again. "We got to know about it in the morning. When we went there, we saw the statue desecrated," said Ralph Misquitta, resident of Vile Parle Gaothan who visits the place.

The cross, known for drawing worshippers of all communities, left many disturbed. "We feel that because the police did not taken any action, this happened again," Godfrey Pimenta, an activist from the community who lives in Marol.

He added, "The community is anyway unhappy as fresh notices have been put on a number of crosses. We had a hearing for some today." Local Christians, in protest, have refused to cover the vandalised cross.

"They are saying that there should be some action by the police first. We will meet the police again in the evening and are waiting for a response from authorities," said Fr Theodore Fernandes, parish priest of St.

Xavier's Church, Vile Parle. A number of political leaders visited the spot.

When contacted, Padmakar Chavan, senior inspector at Santa Cruz police station said, "We have registered a case and arrested one person, who has confessed to the crime."
