A team from Mumbai crime branch, along with divers, camped at a river at Khadavli, ahead of Kalyan, on Thursday after Esther Anuhya murder case accused Chandrabhan Sanap told the police that he had thrown her laptop in the river while fleeing to Nashik.

"Sanap told us that while he was on the run after committing the crime, he had thrown away Esther's laptop in a river from a running train. Based on this information, a police team, along with professional divers, has begun a search for the laptop," said a crime branch source.

Sources also said that Esther's clothes, which Sanap had given away to a beggar in Nashik, were sold by the latter to a scrap dealer. She had apparently told Sanap that she won't keep clothes of a dead person after he told her that they belonged to his deceased wife.

The police have learnt that Sanap had informed his third wife in Nashik about the crime. "We are verifying this claim of his and would record his wife's statement. It has also come to light that his second wife left him because of his habit of visiting prostitutes," said a police officer.

Sanap was convicted of theft in Itarsi and had spent around eight months in Hoshangabad prison, Madhya Pradesh, in 2010. "We are getting his details from the prison. The clothes he wore on the day of the incident are yet to be recovered," said the officer.

The 23-year-old techie had arrived at LTT from Andhra Pradesh on January 5. When her family couldn't contact her, they visited Mumbai and approached senior police officers to look into the matter. After they were made to run from pillar to post, a complaint was finally registered. However, it was not the police but Esther's family that was able to find her body in the bushes of Kanjurmarg.
