Property Cell of the city crime branch on Sunday arrested a notorious housebreaker and seized a Bolero SUV worth Rs 8 lakh from his possession. The police suspect the vehicle to have been bought using money generated through criminal acts.
The arrested person has been identified as Rahul Maheshsingh Thakur, a native of Nashik. It was after receiving specific information that the police laid a trap for Thakur near Nutan Bar at Sion-Koliwada and apprehended him.
According to the police, with Thakur's arrest, they might now possibly be able to make headway in many house-breaking cases.
"During questioning, Thakur admitted that in October, he stole Rs4.75 lakh from the Dadar residence of one Ashish Mhatre's elderly parents. He also admitted that a few more people were involved in that crime," said a crime branch officer.
