The Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Saturday issued a bailable warrant against actor Sanjay Dutt on a private complaint filed by producer Shakeel Noorani in 2013.
A case of criminal intimidation was filed against the actor by Noorani, after he started getting threat calls from the underworld, which he alleged were at the behest of the actor.
The court has adjourned the matter till August 29, 2017, when the accused is expected to attend the court. Advocate Neeraj Gupta, defence counsel for Noorani, said, "It is an old case, which was registered against the actor for a Rs 1 crore cheque which had bounced. Prior to the imprisonment of the actor, he had appeared before the Andheri court. However, post the summons, he was imprisoned in the 1993 bomb blast case. After serving his sentence, the accused has failed to appear before the court. Thus we approached the court seeking a bailable warrant against him."
When contacted, a Mumbai Police spokesperson said, "It's a bailable warrant against the actor. A private complaint was filed by Shaqeel Noorani."
Failed payment
According to a producer, Dutt had to pay him Rs 1 crore for not being able to complete a movie but he was paid only Rs 50 lakh
