Third day in a row, the state Legislative Council was adjourned over Opposition uproar and demand of setting up a commission of inquiry to investigate the alleged scams of the 20 BJP-Shiv Sena ministers.

Opposition leader Dhananjay Munde (NCP) said that until chief minister Devendra Fadnavis sets up the commission of inquiry to probe his allegedly corrupt ministers, they will not allow the upper House to function. "If chief minister Fadnavis can accept the resignation of ex-BJP minister Eknath Khadse on the basis of allegations and even set up an inquiry commission, then why is he reluctant to probe other ministers corruption cases," asked Munde. He said the law should be equal to everyone. "We had submitted all documents as evidence of the corruption cases of BJP-Sena ministers. Now, the government has to investigate and ask its ministers to step down if the charges are true. We are surprised the way Fadnavis and his ministers are giving clean chit to themselves," he added.

Fomer chief minister and Congress leader Narayan Rane said: "If there is no truth in our charges, then the ministers can remain. But an inquiry has to happen. Otherwise, it will set a wrong precedent." Rane added that it is the responsibility of the government and the chief minister to take the Opposition into confidence to run the House.

"If the chief minister does not do anything, then it means he is encouraging corruption in the state. He is also equally responsible for the scams of his ministers. As the chief minister, Fadnavis has also signed on all files. He cannot shrug off his responsibilities. If all ministers are clean, then it will come out in after an inquiry," said Rane.

Meanwhile, requesting anonymity, a BJP leader said that if the chief minister agrees to set up an inquiry commission, then at least a dozen minister will go home. "The commission of inquiry is a trap and Fadnavis does not want to fall into it. If more ministers resign, then the chief minister's position will also be shaky. Therefore, he will not easily agree for it," the BJP leader said.

Rane said that Fadnavis should find out a middle path. "We are firm on our demand. We want transparent functioning of the so-called transparent government. During their election campaign, BJP had promised a corruption-free govt, but now all their ministers are facing corruption charges," he added.
