Corporators, irked by the absence of action on issues raised by them, have told the Mayor of Mumbai that the administration must either respond to the concerns raised via the device 'point of order' (PO) or disallow them from availing of it at all. Corporators raise the 'point of order' in all civic committees at numerous levels and discuss civic issues such as administrative lacunae or other urgent problems.

The subject was extensively discussed in the house by several corporators after Avkash Jadhav, Shiv Sena corporator, raised the issue through a 'point of order.' He said that in ex-commissioner Sitaram Kunte's reign, most POs were not responded to. Out of a total of 32 POs, 28 have been pending since Kunte's time. He would neither attend the house nor respond to the Notice of Motions. "Out of a total of 307 Notice of Motions raised by corporators to improve citizens' living conditions, as many as 245 have not been responded to," said Jadhav.

Jadhav said Kunte's approach was the reason why other officials also took these issues lightly and never responded.

Kishori Pednekar, who supported Jadhav, lamented that the civic officials sat over files, leading to pendency of issues over the years. Saeeda Khan from the Samajwadi Party said that a timely response would help the corporators and the BMC to work towards the city's betterment.

Trushna Vishwasrao, leader of the house, appealed to the Mayor saying that the corporators must be given timely responses in accordance with their issues.

Mayor Snehal Ambekar directed the commissioner to ask all the officials to ensure that responses are given within a period of 45 days.
