As you finish a long day at work, the energy levels are low and there is instant sugar craving. And let's face it: the feeling on hot chocolate or a slightly warm chocolate brownie going into our mouths after such days makes a difference. The feeling of the liquid chocolate going down our throats or the brownie exploding in our mouths after biting into the first morsel removes all the negativities of the day and make us say, "Life is good."

For the working folk at Bandra Kurla Complex, life definitely looked up after Theobroma opened a chain two weeks ago. Unlike other branches, this branch, which is located behind ICICI Bank, has added a soup and salad to its menu, which is an addition to the regular menu – including the all-day breakfast that it serves at other outlets in the city. And yes, the dessert menu is as awesome as ever.

"The idea was to cater to the corporate crowd. In the past 10 years BKC evolved from having one restaurant (US Pizza) to a number of eating outlets for the office goers. We realised that entering the space would be good for business," said Cyrus Shroff, CEO, Theobroma.

Corroborating Shroff's statement, Kainaz Harchandrai, Theobroma's founder, said that the soup and salad concept was to provide light meals to patrons. "We've focused on lighter meals because people at BKC have to go back to work. So, a soup and salad is the best option," said Kainaz.

The branch serves a vegetarian and non-vegetarian soup. While the chicken soup with chickpea broth was nice, we strongly recommend to everyone – both vegetarian and non-vegetarian to try the tomato and coriander soup. It's thick and it's the perfect cure for a bad cold. "The soup is so light and European," said one of the journalists present at the event.

The salads, particularly the roast pumpkin with cranberries, were excellent as well. The pumpkin and cranberries had the right balance of sweet, sour and salty, giving the taster a variety of flavours in their mouth.

Another new concept introduced at BKC, is a buffet table that lays out a spread of select savouries and tall cakes each day. The spread includes flat breads, carrot cake, fudge cake, quiche, doughnuts, muffins and the offerings are proposed to be rotated to ensure new varieties on a regular basis.

Kainaz said that there are plans to introduce the soup and salad to other outlets as well, given the response. "We have plans to open another outlet in fort as well," added Cyrus.
