A week on, the Matunga police are still grappling in the dark in the senior citizen murder case. Relying heavily on technical intelligence to crack the case, the cops are now checking the CCTV footage of the main railway terminals and bus depots for clues. A source said the police have taken details of over 200 calls made and received near the spot on the day of the crime in order to trace suspicious numbers.

On June 7, Manjula Vora (77) was murdered at her Matunga residence while her mentally challenged brother Ravilal (75) was at home only. When their family doctor Dilip Shah visited the house, he even saw the suspect leaving. When he went inside, he found Vora's body lying in a pool of blood inside the kitchen. Her throat had been slit.

The CCTV camera installed outside the flat has captured the suspect carrying a plastic bag. Police did not find any murder weapon at the spot.

"During the probe, we learned that Vora had some monetary dispute with her former cook. We picked up the cook from Rajasthan and interrogated him. As of now, he is not under suspicion. We showed the suspect's sketch to the cook but he could not identify him. The watchman of the building had seen the suspect before in the premises, but he, too, was not aware of his identity. The sketch is not proving to be of much help," said an officer from the Matunga police station.
