Cops search for boyfriend of ex-model who committed suicide

The police have launched a manhunt for the boyfriend of the ex-model who was found hanging at her apartment in Versova on Monday.

The Versova police said on Tuesday that they had spoken to the man, Omar Pathan, who agreed to come to the police station. But he has not turned up and when they tried to call him they found his phone switched off.

The ex-model, Archana Pandey, was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her rented flat at New Mhada Colony, after the police were called by neighbours who smelt a foul stench emanating from the house.

The police also found a suicide note in which she blamed Pathan for taking the drastic step.

"We have registered a case of abetment of suicide against Pathan. We have launched a manhunt to find him as he promised to come to the police station but did not turn up," a police officer said.

In the suicide note she has apparently stated that Pathan tortured her mentally and physically. The police say they will her phone records and that she made several calls and sent messages in the hours before her death.

Pandey lived alone in the 12th floor flat. She worked as a financial consultant with Mirza Productions after giving up her modelling career in 2009.

From the decomposed state of the body, they suspect that the 25-year-old woman committed suicide on Thursday or Friday. The body was taken to Cooper hospital for postmortem.

The police also said that according to imformation available, Pandey was upset for some time after her brother was arrested by Gujarat police in a cheating case.
