The Pant Nagar police have launched a manhunt for four people, who allegedly barged into the house of a 55-year-old woman, fired at her and vandalised her home before fleeing. The incident took place at Ramabai Nagar area in Ghatkopar on Friday afternoon.

According to the Pant Nagar police, the victim Saroj Pillai and her daughter Rajshri Swamy, 21, were the only ones home when around 1.15am four people burst into their room and allegedly pulled Pillai by her hair, pointing a firearm at her and then firing. Pillai told the police that she managed to escape the bullet, but the accused vandalised the house with bamboo sticks and knifes.

"We have found a cartridge at the complainant's residence but are not very sure if it was fired from the weapon carried by the accused," said an officer.

"The accused are Pillai's neighbours; both parties have a long history of enmity and have filed complaints and cross-complaints against each other in the past."

The Pant Nagar police have booked the four under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code.
