Eleven bikers, of a group of 14, were arrested for racing and performing motorcycle stunts at Marine Drive on Sunday morning. Police sources revealed that the motorcycle engines were modified.

The bikers were riding their motorcycles at top speed towards the northbound stretch of NS Road between 3.45 am and 5 am on Sunday. They were honking continuously, and proceeded to tilt their bikes while riding at full throttle. "We soon realised that the group was racing and performing stunts," said an officer of the Marine Drive police station.

"When we signalled for them to stop, they sped away and meandered through different lanes from Marine Drive till Girgaum Chowpatty. We chased them and managed to arrest 11 from the group. The other three managed to flee while leaving their bikes behind. During an inspection of their bikes, we learnt that the vehicles had modified engines, thereby enabling them to race. Separate offences have been registered against each biker," the officer said.

Police sources say Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deven Bharti and Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone-I) Manoj Sharma supervised the operation. The accused were aged 18 through 23 years, and are residents of Mumbai and Thane.
