On August 23 afternoon, constable Shinde (50) from Bandra traffic division was discharging his duty at a petrol pump in Khar, when he spotted a biker without helmet approaching the petrol pump. The said biker then indulged in an argument with Shinde when the latter asked the former to produce his license and vehicle documents.

Constable Sunil Jadhav, the complainant, said, "Kureshi took a wooden plank from the spot and banged it on Shinde's head, and fled away with his brother who too has joined him in the brawl. Shinde was rushed to Lilavati hospital by his colleagues. Later, on Tuesday night, the police detained the 17-year-old biker and sent him to children home. The duo was nabbed from Belapur. Kureshi and the juvenile was booked on charges of attempt to murder and following Shinde's death, they were booked under murder charges too."

"The police have seized mobile phones, SIM cards and memory cards of the duo and are probing if they had filmed the assault or clicked any photographs. It is also suspected that the duo had made a couple of calls immediately after the incident. Their call records are being analysed to ascertain the people whom they had called," said an official privy to the investigation.

The police have reportedly found a diary with the accused which has a couple of numbers. The police have also recovered the bamboo stick used in the crime. "Our probe has revealed that the duo were into drugs, however, it is not clear yet if they had consumed drugs on the day of incident," said a police officer.
