The Mumbai police control room received a threat call stating there would be a bomb blast at Mumbai Central railway station.

According to the police, they got the call by an unknown person around 2:30 pm on Wednesday.

Following the call, a bomb disposal squad and a team of sniffer dogs were dispatched to the spot. But after a thorough search till late evening, the police did not find any suspicious object. The police said the search operation would be called off after it became clear that it was a hoax call.

"Our search at all the stations in Mumbai is on and so far we have not found any suspicious object, activity or person at any station. The search will continue," said DCP Samadhan Pawar, Government Railway Police, Central Railway.

"We are in the process of tracing the caller. An FIR would be registered against the caller if the information is found to be untrue," said a GRP officer.

"If we do not find anything, it would be declared a hoax call," said another police officer. "Though it seems to be a hoax, we have to follow the procedure and take appropriate steps for security purposes."
