Cops file NC against 233 for flouting noise norms

Police sources say that they received complaints from various wards, with maximum complaints from Wagle Estate (34), followed by Vartak Nagar (12). The violators had exceeded the time limit as fixed by the Bombay High Court.

Thane police seems to have taken noise pollution really seriously as they have registered non cognisable offence (NC) against 233 people for violation norms during Diwali.

Though Thane city was less noisy this Diwali, 233 people have been booked for flouting noise norms. During five days of the festival, noise norms were violated in silence zone and many complaints have been registered from residential areas.

Police sources say that they received complaints from various wards, with maximum complaints from Wagle Estate (34), followed by Vartak Nagar (12). The violators had exceeded the time limit as fixed by the Bombay High Court.

Anti-noise activist Mahesh Bedekar said, "Constant hammering has yield fruitful results. There has been a change in the mind set as now people are coming ahead to raise their voice against this nuisance. Though noise pollution was less this year compared to last year, we expect a more quitter Diwali by 2017."
