Sunil Paraskar, the suspended deputy inspector-general of police, is facing more trouble with the police filing another FIR against him and his brother on charges of molestation and criminal intimidation.
The complaint was filed at the Charkop police station on Saturday night by a 27-year-old woman, who is a computer engineer. She and her husband lived as tenants at the house of Paraskar's brother Ravi in Borivli (West).
What's the complaint?
She alleged in the complaint that they were constantly harassed by the Paraskar brothers ever since they started living there, that she was molested and her husband was threatened when they visited the brothers at their Mahavir Nagar residence in Kandivli (West).
Sunil Paraskar is already facing charges of rape on a complaint by a 25-year-old model and he was suspended end-August on the grounds of inappropriate behaviour.
What have cops done?
Kishore Jadhav, additional commissioner of police, north region, said, "The duo had approached advocate Chitra Salunke, who is representing the model in the alleged rape case. She filed an application and the duo approached Charkop police with the application. We have registered a case under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) under the Indian Penal Code." No arrests have been made as investigations are on, he said.
How did woman know Paraskar?
Salunke, the advocate, told dna that the woman and her husband lived in fear in the rented accommodation. The husband had approached Ravi for the house after seeing a newspaper ad.
"The two knew Sunil Paraskar when they had approached him on some issues about their previous house. They started living at Ravi's house on rent May-end. When the husband, an IAS aspirant, had gone to his hometown for two months, Ravi started calling the woman, visited her without any solicitation and asked her for duplicate keys," the advocate said.
What exactly happened?
Confirming the case, the husband told dna that unknown people would visit the house when his wife was alone and harass her, asking for Ravi.
He added that when he protested about this harassment, a few tenants lodged a non-cognisable offence against him at the behest of the Paraskar brothers.
"On September 2, Sunil Paraskar called from Ravi's phone and threatened us. We were then summoned to their house to end the issue. Although we wanted to meet him outside, he insisted that we go to their house," the husband said.
According to him, when the couple went to the Paraskars' residence, the brothers allegedly threatened to rape his wife and abused them.
"The two were confined to the house for over three hours and even locked inside a room in the house," said Salunke.
Is there any evidence?
She said they had recorded the conversation at the residence and that this would be presented as evidence along with messages communicated by the two.
"We were living in fear because of the brothers and their lobby of powerful men. We wanted to end the issue and leave that place but the brothers wouldn't give us our deposit back without discussing the matter, which is why we went to meet them. When it got out of control, we filed the case," the husband said.
The husband has also alleged that Ravi tried to extort money to help him clear the civil service exams. "Ravi asked for Rs1 crore to help me clear the exam. He guaranteed a seat as he and his family have influence in the department," he said.
