The JJ Marg police have booked three doctors and a medical student for allegedly forging documents to secure admissions in the MBBS course of JJ Hospital's Grant Medical College.

According to the police, Sayyed Chandni Ali Manzar, Khan Tausif Tayyeb, Khan Afrin Raees Aslam and Sayeed Binira Mumtaj Haider were booked after the college administration found discrepancies in the documents submitted by them to secure admissions in the college. The JJ Marg police are yet to make arrests in the case.

The police had earlier conducted a crackdown on 16 such students who had allegedly also submitted forged documents between 2000 and 2016 for securing admissions.

"The caste and class certificates submitted by the accused persons are found to be forged. A few students had completed the course while few of them were on the verge of completing the course," said a senior police officer privy to the investigations. "Earlier we arrested Dr Afziya Malik for forging the caste certificate to state that she belonged to a Scheduled Tribe. She had acquired the forged document from one of the kingpins of the racket and paid Rs 10 lakh for it," said the officer. Meanwhile, the kingpin of the racket, Dr Wahab Mirza, continues to remain absconding. The JJ Marg police have launched a manhunt to nab Dr Mirza who has over 10 cases of forgery registered against him in the city.

"We have registered a case under sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Using as genuine a forged) of the Indian Penal Code alongwith other relevant sections," said Shirish Gaikwad, Senior Police Inspector, JJ Marg police station. "We have appealed to people to provide us information on Dr Mirza and have posted pictures of the accused. Our investigations are under process," said Gaikwad.
