The police constable whose son was caught with an original SSC Algebra question paper, had apparently requested the examiner at the centre to give his son a particular question paper instead of the one that he should have got at the exam hall.

According to investigations by the crime branch, the examiner Bharat Namdeo Sonawane, gave the boy the Code D paper as per the seating arrangement, but constable Uday Waman Kadam told him to give him the Code C paper.

The 16-year-old student was caught in the possession of an original question paper at the Yashwantrao Chavan Primary School exam centre in Kandivli (West) on March 11. This question paper turned out to be the Code C paper and along with this the boy also had some chits and a police form with the answers to the questions scribbled on the back.

The boy was arrested and sent to the Dongri remand home, and was subsequently released on bail.

"Our investigations have revealed that Kadam, 50, helped his son to procure the Code C paper. On the basis of CCTV footage from the Balaji temple, near Priyadarshni School exam centre, the call detail records of the constable and statement of the witness, we arrested Kadam on Thursday," said a crime branch officer.

The boy initially said that he got the question paper from his father and later changed his story saying he got it from two youths outside Borivli station.

Kadam accompanied his son to the exam centre in his police uniform and they reached the centre 15 minutes after the exam had started.
